1981, rev. 1986 — piano
The Two Children’s Pieces were composed in 1981, when Santiago Baranda Reyes, with whom I was taking piano lessons, suggested that I write something for a collection of simple pieces for beginners that he was preparing. Instead of one piece, I submitted two, entitled Preludio and Ronda. Baranda then suggested that I write another piece to complete a set of three pieces in sonatina form. His death the following year left both his project and my third piece unfinished. The technical simplicity of the pieces corresponds to their melodic simplicity, with tonal-modal connotations, but composed in a completely free manner. Both pieces were revised in 1986, when I was a composition student of Héctor Tosar.
